Repeat Prescriptions

Patients that are on long-term medication can order repeat prescriptions by using the slip attached to their last prescription. Simply tick the items required and forward it to the surgery.

You can email us on stroutsplace@nhs.net for your repeat request. Please make sure you explicitly provide your details including the address, valid contact number and the medication names to proceed your request on time. Insufficient or incomplete information can lead to delays in your request.

Please note we do not take the repeat request over the phone due to patient's clinical safety.

Please allow two full working days for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.

Repeat Dispensing

If you, or someone you care for, use the same medicines regularly, you may be able to benefit from repeat dispensing from the pharmacist. This means you can collect your repeat medicines directly from the pharmacy without having to visit the surgery or make an appointment to see the doctor or practice nurse every time you need more medicine.

If you would like to be considered for repeat dispensing the first step is to talk to your doctor and ask them if you can use repeat dispensing.

This practice allows community health service clinical staff directly involved in your care to access parts of your medical record. Your consent will be asked before this can take place. If you do not wish this to happen, please let the practice know.

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip.

Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.

Prescription Fees

Help with NHS costs

In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:

  • those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
  • those who are age exempt
  • those with certain medical conditions
  • More information is available at NHS Choices

NHS Charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

  • Prescription (per item): £9.65
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £111.60
  • 3-month PPC: £31.25

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

Prescriptions requested by a private doctor

Requesting an NHS prescription for medication recommended by a private consultant

Following your appointment with your private specialist, you may be prescribed medications or treatment. You may wish to receive this prescription via your GP on the NHS. We have clear guidelines regarding this situation and your specialist will have been informed of these guidelines.

As a general rule, you should be able to meet the costs of all treatment advised by your specialist. We will however, provide an NHS prescription for treatment prescribed or recommended by your specialist when the following criteria are met:

  1. Surgery has received a legible (preferably typed) letter from the specialist with details of the medication (a copy of a private prescription will not be sufficient)
  2. The treatment is available on the NHS
  3. The treatment is in line with with our local medication formulary

Once we receive the typed letter, we will provide a prescription within 2 working days in line with our policy on all repeat medication requests.

If you require the medication before this time, you will need to ask your specialist for a private prescription that can be obtained at your expense.

Any requests for medications on the NHS that do not meet the above criteria will be directed back to your specialist.

You are always entitled to continue using any medication advised by your private specialist via private prescriptions.
